Pirates of Penznace is a hilarious, hopeful farce that follows young Frederic, an orphan, who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an inept and rowdy band of pirates. He disavows the pirates’ way of life and falls for Mabel, the beautiful daughter of Major-General Stanley. Frederic’s melodious tones win over her heart, but when the Pirate King discovers that General Stanley has lied, an “ingenious paradox” is planned that may prevent a budding romance and lead to the death of “the very model of a modern Major-General.”
